SBT interview the Heralds – 4 out of 20: Unfounded reports of abuse2 minutos para ler

The Heralds of the Gospel were sought by the SBT and, for more than an hour, answered the questions raised by trainee reporter John Silva. The interview was held in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, in Caieiras, São Paulo, and was attended by Revmo. Pe. Alex Barbosa de Brito, member of the Virgo Flos Carmeli Clerical Society of Apostolic Life, and several members of the Women's Sector of the Heralds of the Gospel, as well as families and co-workers of the Association.

Asked about a complaint accusing heralds founder Mons. John Clá, having kissed a girl, the priest replied categorically: "It is absolutely unfounded."

Watch the answer in full:

Summary

Pe. Alex reported that some members of the Association know well the history of the young Colombian – responsible for the complaint – and that, through correspondence exchanged with some members of the Institution in recent years, there is a remarkable incoherence of his usual behavior with the attitude taken recently. He adds that such a transformation occurs precisely during the period when the Association undergoes a campaign of slander, where "they are wanting to make us a new Base School case".

The Ep. Alex Barbosa de Brito, EP, took the opportunity to clarify yet another case: an alleged rape. He said there is a police report at the Women's Police Station in Franco da Rocha, São Paulo, in which a young woman claims to have been abused by three Herald priests. Now, the priest describes that the delegate who heard it did not even characterize the occurrence as a crime, but only as others non-criminal. Nor did he characterize the accused, because he said it was indeterminate. "This leads us to the conclusion of something totally surreal." – he added – recalling that a Police Report of itself is one-sided.
